Principal's Welcome

The Principal - Ian Peake BSc FCIPD

Herefordshire College of Technology is by far the largest college in the county, with over 6,000 learners choosing to study with us every year.

We have a simple mission, ‘Success for our Students’, and do everything possible to ensure that you receive the very best education. The College offers over 70 high quality full-time courses in a wide range of subject areas, from blacksmithing to beauty therapy, construction to catering, and equine studies to engineering, to name but a few.

There are many levels of programme available to suit learners of a wide ability range: foundation, intermediate, advanced and degree level studies, so there is bound to be something to match your needs.

We are delighted to be able to offer some of the UK’s best learning facilities and resources at our Hereford city location, thanks to our magnificent new campus. Our Holme Lacy Campus also offers some excellent learning resources, including a state-of-the art Centre for Rural Crafts and a superb commercial farm.

All the courses advertised in this prospectus lead to nationally recognised qualifications, a must if you are planning a rewarding career. Many of our students find full-time employment in their chosen vocation once they are fully qualified; others choose to continue their studies at university.

HCT’s most recent Ofsted inspection , which reviewed our further education courses in May 2010, resulted in an extremely complimentary report. Inspectors found that all five key areas of the College were good; that is, the overall effectiveness of our provision, our capacity to improve, outcomes for learners, the quality of provision, and leadership and management. We are delighted with this excellent result, and that inspectors recognised the continuous improvements achieved at the College.

Our higher education courses were reviewed by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education in May 2009. The Review Team wrote a glowing report which highlighted many areas of good practice for dissemination, including: "robust arrangements for the maintenance of academic standards; proactive and effective staff development and highly motivated, enthusiastic and efficient programme teams".

Through hard work and strong commitment to the success of all our learners, we have built a thriving college community. I very much hope that you will choose to join Herefordshire College of Technology and become part of our success story.
