Animal Care NVQ Level 2

This course involves attendance at College for one day per week and four days at an appropriate workplace.  The course is designed for those with limited experience of the Animal Care Industry and combines lectures and project work with employment experience.  The courses are broad-based, looking at a wide range of skills needed in the Animal Care Industry. 

Each apprentice has a nominated Training Co-ordinator, who will provide co-ordination between the employer, the College and the apprentice, giving continuity and support throughout the course.

NVQ in Animal Care - units include

  • Promote and maintain the health and well being of animals
  • Develop personal performance and maintain working relationships
  • Establish and maintain animals within their accommodation
  • Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
  • Provide feed and water to animals
  • Receive transmit and store information in the work place
  • Assist with the movement of animals
  • Control and restrain animals

Key Skills

Application of Number, Communication, Improving Own Learning and Performance and Working with Others at Level 1

Assessment

Assessment is carried out on a continuous basis involving collecting evidence from a work placement which is also incorporated into a portfolio.

Minimum Age: 16

Duration: 18 - 24 months, one day per week

Award: NVQ Level 2 in Animal Care.

Entry Requirements:
A genuine and practical interest in caring for animals and successfully completion an initial assessment and interview process.  If you suffer from any skin conditions such as eczema, then you should consult your Doctor before considering training in Animal Care.

Animal sanctuaries, pet shops, catteries or kennels
