Extended Diploma in Business - Level 3
The knowledge gained from this course will enable you to make an informed decision about your preferred progression route. You may decide to specialise in certain areas through professional qualifications gained whilst at work, or you may choose to progress on to a Degree programme. Universities welcome applications from successful Extended Diploma Business students. The course is the equivalent to 3 A levels.
Course Content
You will:
- Gain a broad understanding of business and be able to study selected areas in more depth

- Introduction to marketing
- Financial accounting
- Recruitment & selection
- Human resource management
- Managing a business event
- Starting a small business
- Business communications
- Creative product promotion
- The legal system & law-making process
- Understanding business ethics
The emphasis on the course is on “learning by doing” which involves assessments by projects, case studies and presentations. Students will also visit local and national businesses and organisations. In 2010 students visited Tyrells, Westons, Cadburys, Jaguar Cars, Land Rover, The Clothes Show, Morgan Cars, The Houses of Parliament, Hereford Magistrates Court, Cardiff & Worcester Crown Court and The Old Bailey.
Your studies are regularly monitored through our excellent Personal Tutorial System, thus ensuring that you know exactly how you are progressing.
Functional Skills:
All full-time learners will be required to study Functional Skills at the appropriate level. These will be in maths, English and in some cases ICT. Attendance to these sessions is mandatory, please refer to the Functional Skills section of this website for more details.
Progression Route:
Level 3 Extended Diplomas are valued by employers and lead to career opportunities in business specialisms such as finance, human resources, management, marketing or law as well as other business related careers. Learners may also progress within employment to professional qualifications such as those offered by the Chartered Institutes of Marketing, Management Accountants and Personnel Development or on to a university degree course.

Entry Requirements:
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, which must include English and Maths. Business Higher Diploma (achieved at higher grade level)
