Child Care & Education:
Cache Level 3 Diploma
This 2 year programme leads to the Diploma in Child Care and Education Level 3, which is recognised both nationally and internationally.
This qualification prepares you to work unsupervised, or in a supervisory capacity, with children and their families in a variety of settings and environments within the sector of children’s services.
Course time is divided between attendance at college and training in practical placements throughout the 2 years.
The qualification is split into three stages; Award, Certificate and Diploma, with the Award and Certificate building towards the Level 3 Diploma. It is expected that each student will progress through the Award and Certificate to complete the Diploma in order to be able to practice as an 'Early Years Practitioner'.

- Introduction to working with children
- Development from conception to age 16 years
- Supporting children
- Keeping children safe
- The principles underpinning the role of the practitioner working with children
- Promoting a healthy environment for children
- Play and learning in children’s education
- Caring for children
- Development of professional skills within children’s education
Entry Requirements:
We are looking for people with the right personality, people who have a genuine and realistic interest in children, the ability to work as part of a team, imagination, patience and the ability to show initiative and adaptability. There is no upper age-limit on this course.
Satisfactory school or employment records and reports are important. It is also essential to gain some practical experience with groups of children before you apply.
All assignment and portfolios will be graded from A-E in line with GCSE, A and AS level subjects. Points are awarded on the grades given. The maximum points awarded would be 360 UCAS points which is the equivalent of 3 grade A’s at A level.
Functional Skills:
All full-time learners will be required to study Functional Skills at the appropriate level. These will be in maths, English and in some cases ICT. Attendance to these sessions is mandatory, please refer to the Functional Skills section of this website for more details.

Entry Requirements:
Experience of working with groups of young children is desirable. Five grade Cs or above at GCSE level, one of which must be English. Mature applicants have to submit an assignment as part of the application procedure.
Typical Employment:
Work within a nursery, infant school, day nursery, special school, nanny or play therapist.
Further Study:
Progression to employment in a childcare setting, e.g. employment as a teaching assistant, private nanny or nursery assistant. Progression via a Foundation Degree in Learning Support at HCT or degree programme at university.
