To pursue a career in the Equine Industry you must enjoy being outdoors in all types of weather as horses need to be exercised and cared for every day. It is crucial that the horses are well looked after and therefore important that all people working with these amazing animals enjoy taking an interest in their welfare. You will need to be physically fit, hard working and have plenty of stamina.
It is crucial that you are compassionate, dedicated and committed. The working hours are unpredictable and varied and you may be required to work at weekends. Being able to ride a horse is a useful skill for most equine related careers; however, it is not essential for all jobs. However, someone who can correctly ride any horse in any situation is the most sought after employee.
Whichever area of employment you decide to go into, practical experience is important. At the College you will learn and develop these skills. Such skills will be useful whether you decide to enter the Equine Industry directly or go into some of the related businesses such as sales, advisory, technical or consultancy work.
