Complementary Therapies - Level 3
Course Highlights
Training is undertaken in a practical working environment in our superb training/commercial salons and clinic. There is also an option to study additional certificates in advanced massage/ complementary therapy techniques.
Please note: All workshops will incur a charge and are not part of the formal Level 3 qualification structure.
Course Overview
This course has been designed to prepare you for a career as a complementary therapist, whether it be as an aromatherapist, a reflexologist or a massage therapist/ practitioner.
It will develop your knowledge and understanding of the principles and practice and business practice for complementary therapies. Furthermore, you will learn about anatomy, physiology and pathology for complementary therapies.
You will also develop your understanding and practical skills to provide body massage, aromatherapy and reflexology.
This is a practitioner level qualification.
Qualification
Level 3 Diploma in Complementary Therapies (equivalent to 3 A levels)
Duration
One year
Course Content
You will cover a diverse range of topics throughout your course. A selection of unit titles is shown below.
- Principles and Practice
- Business Practice
- Health, Safety and Hygiene
- Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology
- Provide Body Massage
- Provide Aromatherapy
- Provide Reflexology
You will be assessed on a continuous basis within a realistic working environment. You will also be required to produce a portfolio of evidence to be certified by your assessors.
Theoretical aspects of the programme will mainly be assessed through assignments and internal and external test papers.
Functional Skills
All full-time learners will be required to study Functional Skills at the appropriate level. These will be in maths, English and in some cases ICT. Attendance to these sessions is mandatory, please refer to the Functional Skills section of this website for more details.
Entry Requirements
- GCSE passes in English, maths and science
- Successful interview and initial assessment
- Attendance at the skills test/ taster day
- You will need to demonstrate an enthusiasm for this subject area
Progression
There are various opportunities for further study or employment upon successful completion of your course.
Study options may include:
- Level 3/4 Diploma in Sports Massage
- Level 4/Foundation Degree in Complementary Therapies
- Degree in Nursing
- Degree in Midwifery
Employment options may include:
- Supervisory role (after appropriate experience)
- Level 3 Teaching Assistant
- Private Nanny (home or abroad)
