IT (Information Technology) Level 3 Subsidiary/Extended Diploma (including Cisco IT Essentials and Networking)

Student repairing computerThis is an advanced level vocational IT course involving theoretical and practical study of both computer and IT related topics. It is an exciting course that includes a wide range of units designed to provide an excellent platform for learners wishing to either progress towards a course in higher education or enter the IT industry.

The subsidiary diploma is a one year full-time qualification consisting of six units. Successful completion of the Subsidiary Diploma allows entry to the second year which will enable an Extended Diploma to be completed.

The BTEC Diplomas for IT Practitioners have been developed in the IT sector to focus on:

  • Education and training for current and potential IT employees
  • Providing opportunities for IT employees to achieve an internationally recognised industry certification (Cisco IT Essentials and Networking)
  • Giving learners the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised vocational qualification to enter employment in the IT sector or to progress to higher education
  • Giving learners the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life

  • Routers and routing basics (Cisco CCNA 2)

 

Progression

On successful completion of the qualification, learners may progress into employment and/or continue their study in higher education. Learners can gain up to a maximum of 360 UCAS points

Teaching and Assessment

Formal lectures and informal group work are supplemented by workshop sessions with strong practical content. Assessment is by assignments which are marked as pass, merit or distinction. Cisco IT Essentials and Networking are assessed by online examination.
