BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Music
The music business is one of the UK's most successful industries and whether your aspirations are to perform, be a songwriter, producer or manager, this course prepares you for your chosen career. The course is divided into closely related areas, designed to provide a broad-based training programme for those who are either planning on entering the music business, or who wish to further their existing knowledge and skills.
Giving an insight into the technology and equipment utilised in modern music production, this introductory one-year level 2 course provides a foundation for entry into the music technology field. Successful completion leads to a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Music.
There are both practical and theoretical elements to this course, and all assessments are chosen for their industry relevance.
A BTEC Level 2 Diploma is equivalent to four GCSEs grades A* - C. The course is competency-based, and covers a wide range of topics such as:
- Sound recording & mixing
- Computer music production
- Acoustics
- The music industry
Learners can progress onto a Music Technology, Level 3 Subsidiary/Extended Diploma
Typical employment includes; Studio-based assistant, Sound Engineer, Music Programmer, Acoustic Architect.
For a place on this course, students will need to complete an interview and skills test. D - G grades at GCSE and successful completion of the entry skills test are required in order to access this one-year, level two programme.
Functional Skills
All full-time learners will be required to study Functional Skills at the appropriate level. These will be in maths, English and in some cases ICT. Attendance to these sessions is mandatory, please refer to the Functional Skills section of this website for more details.
