Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport - Performance & Excellence (Archery Route)
This course aims to provide a sound academic and practical foundation to sport through the experience of an athlete. If you are serious about your chosen area of sport and would be willing to train and compete at a serious level - read on.
Archery Route
The sport has changed immensely in the last decade with the introduction of match play and the World Cup concept. Learners studying the archery route will train and compete in the sport of archery.
Course Contents
Core subjects:
- Principles of anatomy and physiology in sport
- The physiology of fitness
- Assessing risk in sport
- Fitness training and programming
- Sports nutrition
- Psychology for sports performance
- Technical and tactical skills in sport
- Fitness testing for sport and exercise
- The athletes lifestyle
Specialist units may include:
- Sports coaching
- Practical team sports
- Current issues in sport
- Exercise, health and lifestyle
- Instructing physical activity and exercise
- Sports injuries
- Analysis of sports performance
- Talent identification and development in sport
- Organising sports events
- Laboratory and experimental methods in sport and exercise sciences
Functional Skills
All full-time learners will be required to study Functional Skills at the appropriate level. These will be in maths, English and in some cases ICT. Attendance to these sessions is mandatory, please refer to the Functional Skills section of this website for more details.
Assessment
Assessment is continuous with assignments, projects and practical work.
A range of assessment methods are used including written tasks, group and individual presentations, reports, video analysis and practical skill observations.

Entry Requirements:
Level 2 Diploma (at Merit or Distinction); Level 2 Apprenticeship; NVQ Level 2 in Sport and Leisure Studies or equivalent qualification;
Minimum Four GCSEs at grades A to C to include Maths and English, or equivalent. Places will be offered subject to a successful interview

Professional sports person, teaching, sports development officer, sports therapy, coaching
Further Study:
Level 4 qualification in a related subject, such as sports studies, sports science, leisure management, coaching science or teacher training
