Level 2 Diploma in Sport

Level 2 Diploma in SportThis course focuses on looking at sport from a broad perspective; from sports development and coaching, to instructing on health and fitness through to outdoor activities. It is designed to provide essential skills for the workplace and enhance your academic understanding, skills and knowledge of sport exercise and fitness.

This course is delivered at the Hereford Campus and is a progression pathway to Level 3 vocational-based courses in Sport (Performance and Excellence), Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness) and Sport (Outdoor Adventure).

This course is designed for learners with little or no previous experience of sport and the leisure industry, enabling them to gain a good understanding of the industry and the practical skills needed for employment. The course combines lectures and demonstrations with practical instruction and industrial experience.

The Level 2 Diploma is equivalent to 4 GCSEs grades A* - C.

To successfully complete the Level 2 Diploma, learners must complete a combination of core and optional units.

Course Content

Units include:

  • Fitness testing and training
  • Practical sport
  • Development of personal fitness
  • Work experience in the sport industry
  • Planning and leading sports activities
  • Sport and leisure facility operations
  • Planning and organising a sports event

Learners are given a sound introduction into the development of personal fitness, preparing, participating and leading in sporting activities, and gain work experience in a leisure facility including taking part in the real roles of leisure centre staff.

Additional qualifications

The programme of study will include a First Aid certificate and work experience.

Functional Skills

All full-time learners will be required to study Functional Skills at the appropriate level. These will be in maths, English and in some cases ICT. Attendance to these sessions is mandatory, please refer to the Functional Skills section of this website for more details.

Assessment

Assessment is continuous through assignments. A range of assessment methods are used including written tasks, group and individual presentations, reports, video analysis and practical skill observations.
