BTEC Diploma in Travel and Tourism Level 2

Travel and Tourism students at Virgin airlinesWe have specialist tutors who have strong links within the industry which enables learners to gain the experience and knowledge they need.

This is a one-year full-time programme equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grades A*- C. This exciting course has been designed to develop your vocational skills which are needed for a career in the travel and tourism industry.

At the end of the course you will have achieved 2 qualifications:

  • Travel and Tourism Level 2 BTEC Diploma
  • Preparation in Air Cabin Crew Level 2 BTEC First Diploma

This additional qualification develops the skills required to meet industry needs in relation to air cabin crew and is included in the Level 2 Diploma. Both qualifications are mandatory to complete the course. You also get the chance to train at Virgin Atlantic at the training base in Sussex.

We deliver the course using various assessment methods and help you to develop the confidence required to be employable in this ‘people-orientated’ industry sector. You will benefit from a structured programme of visits and speakers.

  • Understanding the nature and effects of the world

  • Worldwide destinations
  • Exploring marketing in travel and tourism
  • Exploring airports and airlines
  • Overseas holiday representatives
  • Introduction to cruise operators

Course Content: Preparation in Air Cabin Crew

  • Safety demonstrations
  • Onboard customer service
  • Selling skills for cabin crew
  • First aid
  • Working as cabin crew
  • Airline health, safety and security
  • Aircraft emergency situations
  • Dealing with passengers on board an aircraft
  • Cabin service - selling technique
  • Making passenger announcements on board an aircraft

Please note: you will be required to purchase a polo shirt for College visits.

Functional Skills

All full-time learners will be required to study Functional Skills at the appropriate level. These will be in maths, English and in some cases ICT. Attendance to these sessions is mandatory, please refer to the Functional Skills section of this website for more details.

Assessment

Assessment takes place through a variety of internally written assessments and practical tasks. Roleplay and presentations are an important part of the assessment process and learners will need to demonstrate good customer service and team-working skills, which will be included in this exciting course.

Visits

We offer a range of exciting trips and visits to enhance your learning experience. This includes UK day visits and a European residential. We also offer you the opportunity to travel to long-haul destinations in both years 1 and 2. This will include an additional cost to your course fees and is a noncompulsory trip.

Travel agency, hotel reception work or overseas representative.

Merit/distinction profile can progress to the Level 3 Subsidiary/Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism
