Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS)
Course Content
This is a University of Warwick programme designed for intending and practising teacher/trainers in further education and training, industry, adult and community education and public sector services. It is aimed at those with an associate teaching role, for example teaching on a one to one basis or on a programme that is confined to one level/subject/ type of learner, or teaching without full course responsibility. Taught sessions include:
- Recording and planning teaching, learning and assessment
- Access for All and differentiation
- Skills and Initial Assessment; Supporting the learner’s literacy and numeracy needs
- ILT: investigating the latest developments
- Teaching and learning strategies
- Assessment, evaluation and reflective thinking
- Equality and diversity
- Working with learners
Entry Requirements
Applicants are expected to possess the following qualifications on entry:
- Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) – see separate course information leaflet
- Level 3 qualification in their vocational area
- GCSE Grade D English and Mathematics or equivalent Level 1 qualifications
- Have a basic level of computer literacy
Applicants with other teaching qualifications may be exempt from some aspects of the programme.
Attendance
Thursdays 6pm - 9pm (subject to numbers)
Assessment Methods
Participants must undertake 30 hours of teaching practice and two teaching practice observations, and maintain a Professional Development Portfolio. There are also 5 written assignments.
Progression Route
Following qualification, all trainees must go through Professional Formation to gain Associate Teacher in Learning and Skills status (ATLS). They may obtain employment in the Lifelong Learning Sector as an Associate Teacher. Successful trainees may wish to continue their professional development through the Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) where some APL (accreditation of prior learning) in relation to CTLLS will be taken into account.
