The Higher National Diploma in Engineering is designed to improve the career prospects of students who are working as Engineering Technicians and who wish to access more academic studies and/or prepare for a supervisory role. Individual units may be studied by students involved with Continuous Professional Development.
You should have one of the following: A BTEC Higher National Certificate in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or possession of various Armed Service course certificates. Consideration is given to mature students.
The BTEC/Edexcel Higher National Diploma (top up) is primarily an academic, work related course and is made up of six units that are studied after you have completed a Higher National Certificate. All of the units are options, but the course must contain the relevant mix of H1 and H2 units.
Suggested suitable units include:
- Project management
- Energy management
- Plant technology
- Quality assurance & management
- Measurement & testing
- Working with Individuals and teams
Successful completion of the course provides a valued and recognised Level 4 qualification on its own, or you can progress to University to study for a degree. The course is a significant base for progression to Incorporated Engineer status.
