Introduction
The Foundation Degree is a vocationally focussed higher education qualification which integrates academic and work based learning. It is intended to equip learners with the skills and knowledge relevant to their employment in the IT industry, so satisfying the needs of employees and employers. The focus is on software, communications, theory and practice in ICT. Students wishing to continue their studies will be able to top-up to an Honours degree at the University of Gloucestershire or another suitable institution.
Entry Requirements
Students will normally possess one A2 Level qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent, such as a Level 3 BTEC Diploma. Mature learners will be assessed on their relevant experience. All learners will be admitted on their ability to benefit from study at this level and their intellectual capacity and motivation to succeed.

- Systems analysis
- Web design
- Networking fundamentals (CISCO)
- Server side scripting and databases
- Group project
Level 5
- Work-based learning project
- Object oriented programming
- IT security and cryptography
- Network implementation and protocols (CISCO)
Assessment
Assessment takes place using a variety of methods including: assignments, presentations, projects, tests and case studies. Many assessments will be based on the application of knowledge and skills obtained in the computer laboratory. All learners will receive regular feedback on their work and progress from their tutors.
The qualification will be awarded to learners passing all modules with a CAT score of 240. Merits and distinctions will be awarded to learners with outstanding achievements in year two.
Progression Opportunities
On completion of the Foundation Degree you may apply to join the third year of a relevant Honours Degree course at the University of Gloucestershire or another suitable institution. You will have achieved 240 CAT points.
