NVQ 4 Leadership and Management for Care Services

Please Note: The Leadership & Management for Care Services NVQ is being replaced by a level 5 Diploma and unfortunately will not run for September 2010. The new diploma will commence in September 2011.

Introduction

The Leadership and Management for Care Services enable managers to gain a competency-based qualification, which meets national standards for best practice within this area. This higher level award includes a broad range of management skills. It recognises and brings together the mix of advanced practitioner work functions with first line management responsibilities.

Entry Requirements

This award involves complex technical or professional work with a sustainable degree of personal autonomy and responsibility. This may include responsibility for the work of others and the allocation of resources.

Practitioners for whom this award would be relevant include leaders of care teams or managers in residential care who require a formal qualification.

You will need to be employed (full or part time) in the Care sector and working at management level.

Course Content

The Leadership and Management for Care Services Award is an eight unit award. Four units are mandatory and four are optional.

Mandatory units include:

  • Manage and develop yourself and your workforce within care services
  • Lead and manage provision of care services that respects, protects and promotes the rights and responsibilities of people
  • Develop and maintain systems, procedures and practice of care services to manage risks and comply with health and safety requirements
  • Lead and manage effective communication that promotes positive outcomes for people within care services

The course reflects the varied size, nature and organisational setting of adult care services and the diverse roles of the Manager.

Progression Opportunities

Successful candidates may apply for a place on the Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care.
