Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)
Course Content
If you would like to be involved in teaching in the further, or adult, education sector then this short course is for you.
The course provides you with an introduction to teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector. It is aimed at new entrants to the profession as well as the full range of teachers, trainers and tutors working in the sector.
You will attend taught sessions with some self-study and reading. Sessions will include:
Year 1
- Initial Assessment (of the trainee) and exploring ‘Who are the learners in the Lifelong Learning Sector?’
- Exploring the Teaching Cycle and planning for effective teaching and learning
- Exploring the process of learning and how to create effective learning environments
- Assessment activities
- Supporting learners
- Roles and responsibilities of the practitioner
- Developing effective resources
Entry Requirements
No previous teaching experience is necessary.
- Candidates need to have a level 2 qualification in their vocational area
- A good level of spoken and written English
- Have a basic level of computer literacy
Attendance
One evening per week (January or April start) or 1 day per week (Friday) or 2 evenings per week (Tues/Weds) (September start). Flexible delivery is also available on request
Assessment Methods
You will be assessed through a variety of short assignments and classroom group activities. A key aspect of the course is initial assessment and tutorial guidance and support. There is no teaching practice requirement. You will also undertake a peer group teaching activity as part of the assessment.
Progression Route
- Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS), a 50 hour part-time programme leading to Associate Teacher Learning and Skills (ATLS) status
- Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS), a two year part-time programme leading to Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status
