First Aid at Work (HSE)

Course Content

This course is the only course fully recognised by the H.S.E.  First aid - the care given before emergency medical help arrives - can literally mean the difference between life and death. But knowing the correct thing to do if someone has a nosebleed or cut is also important.  Upon passing this course, you will be provided with a certificate, which will be recognised anywhere in the United Kingdom.  The course will enable your nominated first aid person to have the skills and confidence needed to handle any emergency at work. The topics, which are listed below, are some of the topics that may be taught on the day:

  • Resuscitation
  • Cervical Spine Injuries
  • Head Injuries
  • Unconscious Casualty (reason for)
  • Poisons and Chemicals
  • Airway and Breathing Problems
  • Major and Minor Bleeds
  • Burns (heat, electrical and chemical)
  • Fractures (management and recognition)
  • Heat and Cold Injuries and Illnesses
  • Other Medical Conditions eg. Asthma, Diabetes etc
  • Reports, Forms and Accident Book

Recommended Reading Materials

Books and reference material will be provided on the day of the course.

The First Aid Certificate gained on this course will last for 3 years after which a shorter Refresher Course is required.
