Course Content
This course consists of two modules Maintenance of the Chainsaw (CS 30.1) and On-site preparation and basic cross cutting (CS 30.2). This course is a pre-requisite for all other short courses involving Chainsaw operation.
The course covers:
- Risk assessment and emergency procedures
- Routine operator maintenance of the chainsaw
- Round timber cross-cutting techniques of pre-cut timber up to guide bar length
Assessment/Progression
Candidates can progress on to Felling Small Trees CS31 or on to Climb Trees & Perform Aerial Rescue CS38.
Assessment
Following the course, candidates will be assessed for NPTC Award in Chainsaw and Related Operations CS30. This is a practical assessment. Tests are organised separately by NPTC and can be taken at College or on you own site. Tests take place on a separate day, test date will be confirmed at the start of the course. Candidates can progress on to Award for Felling Small Trees CS31 or on to Award to Climb Trees & Perform Aerial Rescue CS38.
