Entry Requirements

There are no pre-entry requirements for this course but a current First Aid Certificate is recommended i.e. appointed persons. This course covers Climbing Trees and Performing Aerial Rescue.

Course Content

This course is designed for people who own a chainsaw or are thinking about purchasing a chainsaw and would like to know the basics about maintenance and operation. You will cover:

  • Risk assessment of tree climbing operations
  • Select and inspect a range of equipment
  • Tree climbing
  • Carry out aerial rescue

Assessment/Progression

Following this course candidates will be assessed in the Award to Climb Trees and Perform Aerial Rescue CS38. This is a practical assessment. Tests are organised separately by NPTC and can be taken at College or on you own site. Tests take place on a separate day, test date will be confirmed at the start of the course. This is a stand-alone course but is essential if candidates wish to take the Award to Operate a Chainsaw from a Rope and Harness CS39.
