BHS Stage 2 Horse Care
Course Content
This course is designed to brush up on exam techniques for the British Horse Society Stage 2 Knowledge and Riding. Exam entry is not part of the cost. The BHS progressive riding tests are incorporated into the course and cost but are not compulsory. The college will not guarantee candidates will pass all 3 tests in the 10 week period; this will be dependent on student’s ability before the start of the course.
Participants must have their own PAS/EN standard riding hats, unfortunately we will not loan hats for people to ride in. Participants must wear boots with a small heel, not wellingtons, along with jodhpurs and gloves.

- Grooming including plaiting
- Rugs and Bandaging
- Saddlery
- Tacking up for lunging
- Horse Handling
- Foot and Shoeing including emergency shoe removal
- Anatomy and physiology
- Health and Safety
- Horse Health and behaviour
- Watering and Feeding
- Stable design
- Fittening
- Clipping and Trimming
- Grassland Management
Assessment
BHS Stage 2 Riding and Care exams are optional. External exams take place on specific dates and are held at BHS exam centres. Candidates wishing to take the exams can be found on the British Horse Society website under examinations. The course fee does not include exam entry.
The Progressive Riding Tests 4 - 6 will be offered throughout the course
dependent on student’s ability.
