Vehicle Maintenance and Repair - NVQ Level 2, NVQ Level 3

Who is eligible?

Those who are employed in an appropriate garage, are aged 19 or over and have been a resident of the EU for the last three years.
Subject to eligibility, this course is fully funded by the government.

Course aims

This award is aimed at skilled and experienced mechanics who do not hold a relevant competency based qualification but want their skills recognised in the industry.
NVQs are made up of separate competency based assessment units which are specific to the chosen occupation and relevant to the workplace.  For these reasons they are highly valued and increasingly sought after by employers and employees alike.

Entry requirements

Prior to signing up for the course you will have a skill scan to assess your ability to achieve the award.
You must be in full time employment in a garage, employed as a mechanic.
All the practical competency evidence required will come from your place of work.

COURSE CONTENTS

NVQ 2 units consist of:

  • G1 - Contribute to Workplace Good Housekeeping
  • G2 – Ensure Your Own Actions Reduce Risks to Health & Safety
  • G3 – Maintain Positive Working Relationships
  • MR01 – Carry Out Routine Vehicle Maintenance
  • MR02 – Remove and Replace Engine Units & Components
  • MR03 - Remove and Replace Electrical Auxiliary Units and Components
  • MR04 - Remove Replace Vehicle Chassis Units Components
  • MR12 - Remove Replace Vehicle Transmission Units and Components

Plus 5 on-line exams relating to the above MR units (to be taken at HCT).

NVQ 3 units consist of:

  • G1 - Contribute to Workplace Good Housekeeping
  • G2 – Ensure Your Own Actions Reduce Risks to Health & Safety
  • G3 – Maintain Positive Working Relationships
  • MR07 – Diagnose & rectify vehicle engine and component faults
  • MR08 – Diagnose and rectify vehicle chassis system faults
  • AE06 - Diagnose and rectify auxiliary equipment electrical faults

Plus one of either:

  • MR13 - Diagnose and rectify vehicle transmission and driveline system faults

OR

  • MR10 -  Identify and Agree Customer Vehicle Needs

Plus 5 on-line exams relating to the above MR & AE units(to be taken at HCT).
