Superb A-Level results at HCT

Excellent A level results have been achieved nationally and here at HCT we are sharing in the success. Fifty percent of our law students achieved grade A! Our students are particularly noteworthy since many of them multi task, juggling businesses, managing homes and families combined with study, which makes them exceptionally high achievers such as:

Emma KnightEmma Jane Knight, aged 18 is a dedicated young lady who studied for her AS and A2 Law exams plus AS Psychology, whilst also having a day job as an Administrative Assistant for the Council. Emma gained A grades in all her subjects which is a major achievement particularly as it has been accomplished in one year of evening study. Emma attended Haywood High school and obtained an NVQ in Administration with Herefordshire Group Training before commencing her studies with Herefordshire College of Technology. She is considering becoming a Probation Officer via Leicester University. Emma says that "studying and achieving such good results with HCT has opened doors of opportunity for her, which she didn’t believe possible". She now has a greater confidence in herself and her abilities. She would like to thank her tutor Isobel Rollitt-James. Emma commented “Isobel was always there to help and an enormous support”.

Kate VerneyKate Verney has just received a grade A in AS-level Human Biology. Kate was born in London and left school with very few qualifications. She went on to do what many children dream of - she became a Circus Artiste, which she continued for 20 years, performing as a clown and a wire walker. Kate then re-trained in Complementary Therapy as a Body Harmony Teacher and Consultant and settled in Herefordshire to bring up her daughter. She later studied Massage and Anatomy & Physiology at HCT. Kate works at Monmouth Natural Health Centre and from home in Ross-on-Wye. Kate decided she really wanted to work as a Physiotherapist so at 45years old, she enrolled at HCT on the AS Human Biology course. “Studying with Alan Evans (HCT’s Biology Tutor) has made me appreciate how interesting science can be – he has inspired me and made me realise my own abilities and given me the confidence to succeed in a field which I thought was beyond me. Studying this course definitely strengthened my application to University of theWest of England, Bristol. I have been accepted in September on the Foundation Year, prior to studying my 3 year Physiotherapy Degree.”

Anna BaileyAnna Bailey who moved to Dilwyn, Herefordshire just over 18 months ago from Sutton Coldfield, achieved brilliant results gaining straight A’s in AS and A2 Business Studies, AS and A2 Law. Although she left school with good examination results, Anna aged 22, had been employed in several roles since leaving school, unable to decide on a direction. It was on becoming a Legal Secretary that her interest in law flourished and she decided to study law with HCT. She now feels she is realising her potential and has found a focus and direction in life. Anna commented “I cannot speak highly enough of my tutor Isobel, I have nothing but admiration for her. I wanted to do well for her as much as myself”.

Bethan Leyden a mother of two young children who fast tracked AS and A2 Business Studies has achieved an A and B respectively in her exams. Bethan from Hereford, attended Fairfield School, then went on to attend to a performing arts course. Bethan had a change of direction and decided to follow her lifelong intention to go to university. By attending HCT and gaining A level Business Studies qualifications and Human Biology previously, she is now applying to Worcester University to study Children’s Nursing. Going to HCT suited her lifestyle. Bethan commented “I found all the teachers were very good and extremely helpful.”

Tutor Isobel Rollitt-James commented: “This year I have had excellent, highly motivated groups of A level Law and Business Studies students, who have been a joy to teach. Achieving an A level by part time study in less than twelve months is a major achievement on their part.”
