Holme Lacy Open Day - Great Success

Dog Agility courseHerefordshire College of Technology’s Holme Lacy campus welcomed around 1,000 visitors on Saturday 7th June at their Open Day. Each year the campus opens its gates to the public for an informative, fun and action packed day out. It's a great opportunity for staff and students to showcase a wide range of the superb work that goes on at the campus. The event was officially opened by The Right Worshipful, the Mayor of Hereford and the Mayoress.

With sheep shearing and gun dogs through to blacksmithing and forging demonstrations, plus numerous displays including Riding for the Disabled, dog agility, equine, woodworking and a show cattle parade, there was plenty to see.

Eathan Richards aged 9, Hereford said “I have had a great time, I love seeing all the animals and I have learnt a lot. I really enjoyed seeing the cattle parade and the blacksmithing demonstrations”.

Visitors are free to wander around the site, meeting the residents in the Animal Care Centre and where beautiful gardens, tended by Horticultural and Skills for Working Life students can be admired. Tractor and Trailer rides took guests further afield, around the 257 hectare estate and working farm.

For those who felt a little more energetic, a variety of activities were on offer, including a climbing wall, canoeing, football trials, clay pigeon shooting and pony rides.
Tom Pervis from Hereford commented. “The staff here are so welcoming and friendly, really accommodating – especially with my two young children, aged 8 and 11 years. We have had a great time clay pigeon shooting”

Many locals visit each year, others travelled from as far as Wrexham and Yorkshire to find out more about the courses on offer.

“I have applied for the Foundation Blacksmithing course; I had the prospectus but hadn’t visited the campus before. It is a delightful place, I have had all my questions answered and look forward to starting.” Charles Millham, Wrexham.
