Snowdonia test for Outdoor Adventure students
Herefordshire College of Technology, Holme Lacy Campus students headed for the mountains in North Wales in order to undertake a week long Mountain Leader training course that will be a valuable asset alongside their degree.
On Saturday 5th April the group of seventeen students from the BSc (Hons) Degree in Outdoor Adventure Leadership & Management, run in partnership with the University of Worcester, set off to the Blue Peris Outdoor Centre in Snowdonia.
The students examined the skills required to lead groups in the mountains of the UK in great detail. Topics such as navigation, group management, safety on steep ground, rope-work, river crossing and expedition skills were all included.
Once additional experience of working in mountainous areas has been gained, students can undertake the assessment and achieve an important additional national governing body qualification.
The qualification will enable students to work with groups anywhere in the UK in mountainous regions in summer conditions.
These extra awards are essential, alongside the degree itself, in order to enter this exciting industry and gain employment.
Students are now looking forward to July, when they will be visiting the French Alps as part of their Adventure Tourism Module.
