Travel & Tourism students taste the Big Apple!
BTEC National Travel & Tourism students have just returned from 4 fantastic days in New York.
The students started the trip by making their own way to the airport, planning within their groups the cost and best way to travel. Many decided to stay overnight at Heathrow and then took a morning flight with Virgin Atlantic.
All were tired after the flight but far too excited to stay still and so the group visited the Empire State Building after dark and took in the amazing views. They then walked through Time Square and rounded off the first evening by skating at the Rockerfella Centre.
The following morning saw the group set off on foot to Grand Central Station and a breakfast of bagels, pancakes with maple syrup & coffee.
The trip had fortunately coincided with celebrations of The New York Giant’s football team's success in the Super Bowl and the whole of New York seemed to be out for the victory parade, with people cheering and shouting and the air full of ticker-tape. The students all joined in the fun and then after a meal in China Town returned exhausted to the hotel.
On the third day the group took the subway to see the Statue of Liberty & then a visit to the 'Ground Zero' site.
In the afternoon the students visited some of New York's best known shops including Tiffany’s, Abercrombie and Fitch, Macy’s & Fifth Avenue. That evening the students went to Madison Square Gardens to watch a basketball match featuring the Knicks versus the Pacers. Decked out in
basketball shirts & hats everyone had a fantastic night and were made to feel most welcome with Herefordshire College of Technology acknowledged in lights and the group highlighted on the large stadium screen.
On the final day the group were taken on a coach tour of the city which included Greenich Village & Soho as well as several locations that feature in well known American TV programmes, even Mike Myers put in an appearance! The tour ended in the late afternoon and then it was back to the hotel to prepare for the long journey home, with everybody saying what a wonderful memorable experience they'd had.

You are also put into teams, taking it in turns to become team leaders.

You will study 18 units and gain a qualification that is equivalent to 3 A’ levels on completion. During this course you will put together a portfolio of evidence, take part in presentations, develop your microphone skills and improve It and Literacy skills.
