HCT at the Three Counties Show: June 19th - 21st 2009
This year's Three Counties Show was fortunate to bask in excellent weather and saw a healthy number of visitors.
Each year the Blacksmithing and Farriery Access students and staff have a presence at the show, displaying a variety of work as well as testing their skills in a variety of competitions. All take part in the setting up, running of the exhibits and the break down, providing students with a valuable three days whereby they can show off some of their superb work as well as enjoy competing with other students.
Our students and staff achieved awards against stiff competition, our successes included; Josh De Lisle (ND Blacksmithing) being awarded 2nd for his forged insect and Tony Ingerfield (ND Blacksmithing) being awarded 4th prize for his axe head, both in the Traditional Blacksmithing class.
As well as achieving 'Overall Show Winner', Ambrose Burns (Tutor) was awarded 1st for his gate and 3rd for his sculpture in the Contempory Blacksmithing class. Neil Lossock (Tutor) won the 'Open Live Smithing' competition making a shackle and link.
Harry Meek (2nd Year Farrier Apprentice) was placed in the 'Apprentice Shoe Making' competition and Mike Wolverton (4th Year Farrier Apprentice) won the 'Four Forged Corner' competition.
BTEC National Diploma in Agriculture students gained a real insight into preparing and handling show cattle when they turned out three well presented Hereford cattle for the 'Young Heifer' class. The students were involved with handling the cattle from calves, ensuring they were washed, groomed and halter trained ready for the big day. Well done to all!
