Business Students go to Bulgaria
Five students from the BTEC First Diploma in Business course had an amazing experience when they successfully made it through as UK finalists to travel to Sofia in Bulgaria and take part in the Skills@Work International Challenge final.
The Skills@Work Challenge is a national and international competition aimed at encouraging young people to use their skills in enterprising and innovative ways, ultimately increasing their employability and entrepreneurial flair. Attending alongside the group from HCT, were 56 students from 10 different European countries.
The budding entrepreneurs secured a place in the International finals with their idea to recycle clothes into wallets and handbags.
In total over 500 students took part in the national competitions that were held in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Israel, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Turkey and the UK.
The criteria for their assessment included innovation, feasibility of the idea, awareness of the business environment and presentation skills.
The student groups were mixed and new groups formed, giving each the opportunity of working with new team members from various nationalities and, after 24 hours of brainstorming, collaboration and idea generation, the teams presented their innovations to a panel of judges.
The event was organised and hosted by Junior Achievement –Young Enterprise Europe in partnership with British Council, who are the world’s largest international cultural relations organisation. British Council connects people with learning opportunities and creative ideas to build lasting relationships around the world.
During the 4 day visit, the students from HCT also got to have dinner at the British Ambassadors Residence and undertake some sightseeing before returning home.
