COMMENTS FROM OUR ARCHITECTS - HEWITT STUDIOS
Completion of the Community Studies Centre marks a significant addition to the Hereford Campus, in effect providing a ’front door’ to the College. To achieve this it incorporates those areas of ‘public-interaction’ which benefit from close proximity to the Folly Lane thoroughfare; notably a training restaurant and suite of hair/beauty salons. The building also provides the College with a significant number of state-of-the-art teaching and training spaces, all with strong environmental credentials such as natural ventilation and day lighting, as well as passive temperature control.
High-quality landscaping is established at the heart of the campus, including the central learning street, a stepped amphitheatre and College quads and gardens. Red weathering steel and gabion baskets provide a contextual accent and reference to the red earth and stone in the Herefordshire landscape.
The completion of the Community Studies Centre delivers inspiring and dynamic surroundings for College students, and one that respects both the local and global environment. The College now has a first-rate education campus with modern, fit-for-purpose buildings, rationalised patterns of movement and high-quality public space.
