Faculty of Technology Awards
Over 200 people turned up to Herefordshire College of Technology’s Event Suite on Thursday 1st of July for the Faculty of Technology awards evening. The evening is held to celebrate the success of outstanding students on the Engineering, Construction, Foundation Studies, Key Skills and ESOL courses and New Entrant Training Scheme. Awards were presented to around 80 students, selected by their tutors from a cohort of over 3000 for Outstanding Achievements and Best Progress, across the subject areas.
Special Awards were presented as follows:
Simon Bucknell received the Outstanding Achievement Award (Engineering) Shield.
Callum Anderson, Anthony Farmer, Ryan McDonald, Michael Preece, Aaron Sandford, Gwyn Sargeant, James Smith and Jeremy Spencer received the Outstanding Achievement Award (Construction) Shield.
The Paul Boots Endeavour Award went to Nathan White and the George Dray Memorial Cup for Thatching (NETs) went to Dafydd Driver.
Team Leader for Construction, Howard Repton, commented “This is always a fantastic evening. It is wonderful to share the successes of our students with their families, friends and employers.”
Mr Colin Richards MBE was the Guest Speaker for evening. A graduate in Town and Country Planning and also Architectural Conservation, Colin Richards has spent a lifetime involved with building construction in Herefordshire and Shropshire.
He was awarded an MBE for his services to conservation in 2007 and his vast experience has led to him being invited to manage projects in France, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia and Romania. Colin Richards gave a superb inspirational speech, stressing the importance of education and sharing some of his various experiences with the students.
