Faculty of Land-based Studies Awards
On Thursday 8th July the Holme Lacy campus was bustling with people before all took their seats in the stylish marquee for the Faculty of Land-Based Studies Awards evening. With around 250 students, family, friends and staff present the atmosphere was superb as all gathered to share in the achievements of learners on courses ranging from Agriculture, Animal Care, Forestry and Arboriculture, Equine, Outdoor Education and Sport through to Blacksmithing and Farriery, Welding and Fabrication as well as Forge Work (New Entrant Training Scheme).
Guest of Honour, Nicola Goodwin, gripped the attention of the audience with an interactive, light hearted yet inspirational speech on her career, including her work as a Freelance Journalist. Nicola presented students with their certificates and awards and we would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ for her support with this event.
Special congratulations go to Abigail Bramble, who was awarded the Len Dixon Trophy. The trophy is named after Len Dixon who was a well known figure in farming in Herefordshire, Chairman of Herefordshire NFU and was a Governor of the College. This is awarded to a top achieving student who also makes the largest contribution to the Holme Lacy campus. Abigail has completed the National Diploma in Agriculture with Distinction and has secured a place at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth to study for a Degree in Agriculture. We wish her all the best.
Congratulations also to Richard Hodges, studying for an Advanced
Apprenticeship in Agriculture, who was awarded the Phillip Anning Memorial Cup. The Cup was presented by David and Dorothy Anning in memory of their son, Philip, who was a student at the Holme Lacy Campus and who sadly lost his life in a motorbike accident.
