Learners with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities Awards

Shane Meredith and Guest Speaker, Jason BorlaseLearners with learning difficulties and disabilities gathered with family and friends to celebrate their 2010 course achievements at Herefordshire College of Technology’s Holme Lacy campus on Monday 12th July.

HCT is able to provide a range of accredited and approved programmes that offer very clear progression routes. These courses also integrate Skills for Working Life, Literacy and Numeracy, providing students with increased independence and a solid base from which to continue further study. Many of last year’s students have successfully gone into the work place or started NVQ level 1 vocational qualifications.

Guest speaker, Jason Borlase, HCT’s Chaplain, delivered an inspirational speech before handing out the certificates and special awards. He shared his own learning experiences, praised progression and encouraged learners to focus on what can be and has been achieved and to look for the positives in all we do.

Congratulations to all those who successfully completed their studies.

A special “congratulations” goes out to Timothy Dowse and Shane Meredith. Timothy received the ‘Student of the Year Award’ for his tremendous determination and the successful completion of the BTEC Art, Media and Drama course. Shane received the ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ for his abilities to embrace and share knowledge with his fellow students, help the younger ones and his overall progression and dedication while studying for the Pound Farm Organics Land-based course.

A special mention also goes to Angus Keen. Staff and students at the Holme Lacy campus were particularly pleased to see Angus receive his award at the ceremony as he has only just returned from a recent operation at Great Ormond Street. Angus is very dedicated and works extremely hard studying horticulture and we look forward to seeing him start his new course in September.

Rob Dunn, HCT’s Assistant Principal- Faculty of Land based Studies said, “This is always such an enjoyable event. The students have worked fantastically hard and we are very proud of their achievements”.
