West Midlands Badminton Tournament

HCT badminton players - Elin Lancett and Alistair JonesHCT students, Elin Lancett & Alistair Jones recently played in the prestigious British Colleges Sport, West Midlands Badminton Tournament in Telford which involved over 75 players from colleges throughout the region.

In the mixed doubles event the pair played with power and precision and utilised the fact they were both left handed to maximum effect. They dominated their group and won all three of their games with convincing scorelines: 21-0, 21-9 & 21-0.

The semi-final saw them face much tougher opposition when they came up against a talented pair from King Edward Stourbridge College. The resulting contest was a close affair but Elin and Alistair managed to book their place in the final with two wins: 21-15 and 21-16.

In the final they came up against Stafford College pair, Ollie Blackemore and Naomi Scriven. The first set was a nail biting affair with the Hereford pair just losing by the narrowest of margins; 23-21. In the second set, senior county player Ollie started to show his quality and Elin & Alistair finally succumbed to defeat; 21-13.

Huw Pritchard, Sports Co-ordinator at HCT commented, "finishing runners-up out of all of the colleges in the West Midlands is no mean achievement, Elin and Alistair really did the College proud. This was a great experience for them and they will only get stronger as a result of this".
