Equestrian Centre Passes BHS Inspection with 'Flying Colours'

Jumping -at the Centre's sand schoolPatrick Print FBHS, who carried out the British Horse Society’s ‘Where to Train’ inspection earlier this week, passed the Equestrian Centre at the Holme Lacy Campus with what Yard Manager Sonya De Wilde describes as ‘flying colours’. HCT's land based campus at Holme Lacy was inspected as part of the British Horse Society’s ‘Approved Trainers and Riding Centres’ scheme. Inspections are carried out annually and ensure that the BHS’s high standards are maintained. As well as regular full time equine courses, the yard also offers other training opportunities including adult summer camps, ride and road safety exams, dressage, show jumping and cross country clinics and BHS exam preparation days with Jeremy Michaels FBHS.

Sonya De Wilde remarked afterwards, “We are all really pleased with the inspection. The inspector commented that the centre was very well run; the horses all looked well, were supple, balanced and well educated. He also commented that the horses used in the jump session were suitable for stage IV level, a higher standard than we are presently approved for.”

The teaching staff at Holme Lacy Campus are proud of the commitment and provision that they offer students and Sonya described how this was further reflected in the inspection findings regarding teaching at the yard. “Patrick Print also commented that the teaching showed active progressive coaching with good feedback and practical advice throughout the lesson. He felt that the small class sizes allowed for a much more practical ‘hands on’ education. Patrick finished by saying he hoped that Holme Lacy would aim to increase its approval standard to BHSII training in our next inspection.”
