Brickwork Students Celebrate a Job Well Done
Two HCT students who gave up their holiday time this summer to work on a community heritage project in Ludlow, have been celebrating the project’s completion. Having finished their Level 1 in Brickwork, the two jumped at the opportunity to work on the rebuild of the 19th century wall at the Ludlow Conference Centre, before returning to study the Level 2 Brickwork course in September. Billy Johnson and Glenn Lyall, who recently finished the repair on the stone masonry wall, have welcomed the opportunity to do something different that will add to their ever-widening skills base.
Course Tutor, Chris Farr commented, “I’m really proud of both of them, not only because of the work they have completed but also for the time they gave up over their holidays. They have shown tremendous commitment to the task, travelling by train each day and have exhibited a commendable work ethic. The skills they have carried out on this heritage project have shown how much more there is to building a wall than just bricks. It really has been a great experience for everyone involved.”
The pair received commemorative Marshalltown trowels presented to them by Councillor John Aitken, Mayor of Ludlow, in recognition of their work.“I think this is a fabulous example of collaborative working between different organisations. It has provided real learning opportunity for young trades-people and they have produced a great piece of work to be enjoyed for years to come.”
