Building Bridges - HCT and Broadlands Primary
HCT’s Level 1 Brickwork students have got stuck in with demonstrating their skills to Year Four pupils from Broadlands Primary school, in a project to develop students personal and social skills which is part of their overall assessment.
The project came about after tutors discussed with students how they would like to complete this part of the assessment and pupils from the primary were then invited to the workshops where students showed them round and talked to them about how brickwork is a part of all of our everyday lives. Students then paired off with individual pupils so they could try out making their very own wall.
Brickwork tutor Paul Stevens commented, “Everyone involved really enjoyed the experience. It enabled them to understand how important it is to interact with the local community and how communication is an important part of their trade. I’m really proud of how patient and mature our students were with all the young pupils; it was a great day.”
