First Steps of the Dream Team

The HCT Basketball TeamHerefordshire College of Technology’s Basketball Team was the epitome of solidarity last week as players geared up for the first inter-college game and played in what turned out to be an action packed game. The team comprises students from a variety of courses and they all came together to represent the college as one led by FE Sports Co-ordinator Huw Pritchard.

Playing against neighbouring rivals Hereford Sixth Form College, the game was still friendly as many members from both teams had been involved in the Tri-College Sports Initiative that ran a cross-college team last year.

HCT team player Aeron Ibanez has been playing basketball since he was 6 years old. He comments “In the Philippines, where I grew up, there is a professional league; it’s played in the streets and is one of the country’s main sports. Our match went really well, it was a good game and I’m looking forward to the next one.”

The first few quarters of the game were a close and tense affair with some good attacking skills on display. In the last two quarters HSFC pulled away due to their regular training which has lead to better fitness levels and a more structured defensive strategy. Even though HCT team morale was high, it is early days in their training and they are looking forward to a rematch at the end of half term. Huw Pritchard commented “The HCT boys can be proud of their efforts and the game was great to watch, the final score ended up 43-27 which is a great place to start from. I am confident in the team building on what they learnt in the last game.”

Pictures of the event will soon be uploaded to www.tricollegesports.co.uk for you to look at. If you’re interested in playing Basketball at the college or any other sport please contact Huw Pritchard (FE Sports Co-ordinator) on 07596 520679 or sports@hct.ac.uk
