Equine Students Jumping for Joy
Local company Ryeford Rosettes and supermarket chain Tesco have helped out Herefordshire College of Technology Equine students by sponsoring their Show Jumping Competition coming up on Sunday 25th March.
Staff and students were thrilled by the generosity of both companies and commented “We want to say a big thank you to both Ryeford Rosettes and Tesco for their support, Gill Evans at Ryeford Rosettes is supplying all of our rosettes and Tesco has been really generous in donating Easter Eggs for the prizes. We feel really proud and fortunate to have sponsors, especially with the economy being like it is.”
The keen students have been busy organising the competition as part of one of their teaching modules on event management and are looking forward to seeing how it comes together. BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Horse Care student, Sarah Eckley, described how the process has been: “It was challenging at first to organise individual responsibilities and make sure everyone was communicating what they were doing. It has been a good experience to learn from and it is all running smoothly now. ”
The competition consists of a 2-3ft show jumping course and a ‘Chase Me Charlie’ round. Student, Lucinda Woolstenhulme, hopes that the general public will enjoy the event “We think people will have fun at the competition; we’re really looking forward to lots of people coming and benefiting from our hard work, team spirit and seeing what the Equine Department does here.”
The competition starts at 11am and schedules and entry forms can be obtained from the Holme Lacy campus or by sending a SAE to Jeremy Micheals, Herefordshire College of Technology, Holme Lacy Campus, Holme Lacy, Hereford HR2 6LL.
