Furniture Studies, Design & Making Exhibition

“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.”

William Morris

Furniture display at 'art360'Herefordshire College of Technology has been developing the skills of furniture makers since 1986 and continues to provide practical and comprehensive training in this area. In recent years the course has enjoyed an overwhelmingly high success rate for those wishing to go on to university and gaining employment.

With the support of the Hereford charity ‘art360’, work from the furniture course is being displayed in the shop window at 26 King Street, Hereford from Friday 11th November to Friday 9th December. This is a real opportunity to see first hand the high-quality craftsmanship being produced by past and current students.

The course has developed close links with Bucks New University who are part of the National School of Furniture (NSF) which runs in partnership with Rycotewood Furniture Centre. The course has visits from industry specialists such as Paul Tear MBE (Course Leader for BA [Hons] Furniture Conservation, Restoration & Decorative Arts at Bucks New University). These visits enable students to place their work within a broader context and realise their progression potential.

Ash side tableAs career changes become more common place in society many people are rethinking traditional industry roots and what benefits can be achieved from learning a craft. As a result HCT welcomes a broad range of students to its furniture courses whether they are a school-leaver with a flair for practical woodwork or a mature learner with a passion for design who want to make their ideas a reality.
