Close Encounters of the Bird Kind

Falconry workshopCountryside Management students at Herefordshire College of Technology’s Holme Lacy Campus thoroughly enjoyed a hands-on falconry experience on Wednesday 28th September. Trevor Hill from ‘Trevor Hill Birds and Animals’ visited the College and bought a selection of falcons, owls, hawks and eagles which the students were able to fly to their own hands.

Trevor provided a wealth of information about the various breeds as well as a number of demonstrations so that the students could see first-hand the different styles, techniques and speeds the birds deployed when hunting in an arena environment.

Course tutor, Richard Clarke commented, “The visit by Trevor was a marvellous opportunity for the students to identify, handle and fly these magnificent birds. It’s important for them to see native wildlife that they may encounter in their future careers. I’m really pleased with how well the students handled the birds and I’m looking forward to being able to use what we’ve learnt in our current module.”
