Partnership with Herefordshire Headway Goes From Strength to Strength

Headway are the U.K's leading brain injuries charity, specialising in providing support and rehabilitation to people with acquired brain injuries. The Herefordshire branch is based at Credenhill and over the past 20 years has successfully supported over 1000 local people. The centre currently supports over 100 participating members.

The College has built a successful partnership with Herefordshire Headway and is proud of both the relationship and the weekly craft courses that are held at the centre. The significance of this collaboration is summarised by Doug Webb, who first came to Headway in 1997 after suffering a stroke.

"Clients at Headway have taken advantage of these courses over a number of years and value the educational content of them, in a safe environment with students of similar disabilities and staff who understand their limitations. The pace of the courses being geared to their limitations and abilities together with the relaxed and friendly atmosphere, all contribute towards bringing about a feeling of self worth and regaining/maintaining confidence in addition to an overall happy experience. We would want to emphasise the value of the FEEL GOOD FACTOR, which is often at an all time low as a consequence of a head injury".

It is clear that the opportunity for creative expression has great benefits for the members at Headway who often discover previously hidden talents! The photographs below show just two examples of some of the superb work produced during the courses.

I enjoy coming to art and woodwork, if I didn't have these courses my life would be very boring. I have learned a lot of new skills and the staff are always helpful
