Faculty of Land-Based Studies Awards 2011
On July 7th the stylish marquee at Herefordshire College of Technology's Holme Lacy Campus was bustling with people in attendance for the Faculty of Land-based Studies awards.
With around 200 students, family, friends, employers and staff present, the atmosphere was superb as all gathered to celebrate the achievements of learners on courses ranging from Agriculture, Animal Care, Forestry and Arboriculture, Equine, Outdoor Education and Sport through to Blacksmithing and Farriery, Welding and Fabrication as well as Forge Work (New Entrant Training Scheme).
Guest of Honour Ben Denman, professional blacksmith and seasonal bee keeper, delivered a light hearted but thought provoking speech. Ben shared his experiences of starting out in the blacksmithing trade, the positives and negatives of being self-employed, the trials and tribulations of bee keeping and the importance of enjoying what you do.
Ben presented students with their certificates and awards and we would like to say a huge thank you for his support for this event.
We would like to congratulate all the students, particularly Eleanor Jones who was awarded the Len Dixon Trophy, Robert Wright who was awarded the Phillip Anning Memorial Cup and Ashley Caffull who was presented the Georgia Astbury Memorial Award. These awards are presented to students who have shown particular enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to their courses.
