LLDD Awards 2011
On July 6th, students, families, friends, carers and staff gathered at Herefordshire College of Technology’s Holme Lacy Campus to celebrate the achievements of learners with learning difficulties, disabilities and special educational needs.
Students received certificates in acknowledgement of their hard work throughout the year and to highlight their successes with gaining nationally recognised qualifications.
In addition, special awards were presented for Top Student, Top Practical Student and Best Progress across the subject areas and the Christopher Roach Trophy, awarded by Chadds of Hereford, was presented to the overall Outstanding Student.
Julia Evans kindly gave up her time as Guest of Honour and presented the awards. She spoke of her 200-acre organic farm in Whitbourne, Herefordshire, and its many animals including pedigree Shorthorn beef cattle and Lleyn sheep. Julia has recently diversified into ‘care farming’ and works with students who have been excluded from mainstream education. She spoke of the importance of learning, especially when put into a hands-on context that students can relate to. Special congratulations go to Shane Meredith who was presented with the Christopher Roach Trophy for overall Outstanding Student. The College offers a range of entry-level life skills and vocational courses - enabling learners to progress to a higher level qualification and preparing them for the world of work.
