'Majiq' Success in Worcester
HCT Young Enterprise Team, ‘Majiq’ have won ‘Best Tradestand’ and second place overall in the Hereford and Worcester round of the Young Enterprise Competition.
The group from the Level 3, Year 2, Advanced Diploma in Business, have already been a big hit in Hereford with their product the ‘Majiq Shirt Roller’ working with high street businesses such as Fit and Pritchards. Majiq joined 8 other groups who had won their local competitions at the Worcester County Hall to be judged by a panel of industry professionals. The judging was based on individual interviews, trade stand, business report and a presentation to the Young Enterprise audience of 500 at the Worcester County Hall.
Student Dan Cooper, member of Majiq and HCT Student Governor, explained how pleased they are with their achievement, “There was a really high standard of businesses there and we are really proud to have been awarded second overall especially with such tough competition.”
With the UK’s media still discussing the country’s recovery from recession, Dan commented how encouraging the event had been for young people moving into the industry, “All the entrepreneurs kept reminding us how we are the future of the UK business economy and really getting us to think about how we are going to help develop UK businesses and support our industries. The scale of the conference really hit this home to us.”
HCT principal Ian Peake who attended the event was full of praise for the Majiq team, “This year's Young Enterprise students have been our best ever. They have developed a successful product and company, engaged with local businesses, and learnt a great deal about the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. I have absolutely no doubt that they will achieve great things when they complete their education - many have decided to continue to study at university. The labour market may be tough but this group of young people provide an excellent example of hope, ambition and aspiration for a bright future."
Ian Peake also extended his praise to the many staff and mentors that have supported the group throughout their campaign, “It is right that the students get the credit, but I would like to make sure it is shared with their highly dedicated teachers, business advisor and support staff.” Course tutor, Isobel Rollitt-James was ecstatic with the team’s performance and advised, “Even though the team will now be going their separate ways at the end of the course, they are still discussing the selling of the stock and reflecting on their achievements; it has definitely been an experience for them to remember.”
