Holme Lacy Hosts Organic Farming Workshop
Pound Farm at Holme Lacy campus was the venue for the Phosphate Supply and Management in Organic Farming workshop on July 22nd. The workshop was part of the 'PLink Project', a Defra funded Link project managed by the Scottich Agricultural College.
The project is a laboratory and field research programme which aims to optimize the use of phosphate in organic and other farming systems. Pound Farm was one of the farms used for field trials, with particular emphasis given to the effects of phosphate levels when using green composting.
The workshop was very well attended and involved some of the UK's leading specialists in soil management in organic farming. It was led by organic specialist, Mark Measures with contributions from Christine Watson and David Atkinson. The day was blessed with superb weather making the afternoon trips to the trial fields and orchards a very pleasant way to round off the day.
Farm Manager Dan Seaborne commented, "It's been great for the College to be involved in this project, we're obviously keen to manage the farm as efficiently as possible and like to keep abreast of the latest research and developments in organic farming techniques".
