HCT Rugby Team Battle Bravely

HCT's Rugby Team

HCT’s rugby team played their game this week taking on their local rivals Hereford Sixth Form College. Whilst our lads have come together in just nine training sessions, the opposing team have benefited from multiple training sessions per week and a tough game was anticipated.

With a secure take from the first kick off, HCT started strongly and got the first points on the board with a well struck penalty from fly-half Tom Horsnett-Morris. Things got even better when Tom got on the score board with a good team try. The conversion was missed but HCT spirits were up and their opponents rattled.

Things turned when in the 25 minute, second row Connor Howard suffered an injury during a ruck. Connor was taken to hospital where ligament damage was confirmed and thankfully no broken bones. With one of HCT’s lineout jumpers down, HSFC began to dominate the lineout and possession. At half time HSFC had moved into a 10-8 lead.

During the second half HSFC used their larger squad to their advantage continually bringing on fresh legs, which kept the scoreboard ticking over. HCT played some great rugby throughout and a well-deserved try for Captain Dan Powell meant that the final score finished HSFC 32 – HCT 13.

This is hopefully the first of many fixtures this year with the next opponents mooted as being John Kyrle High School.
