'Mock Tribunal' is a Real Experience for HR Learners

Mock tribunal at Munstone HouseLearners from the Intermediate Diploma in Human Resource Management Level 5 attended a mock tribunal event at Munstone House in Hereford. Course tutors worked closely with Kidwells Law Solicitors to host the event, which aimed to give learners an idea of what to expect from that type of situation. The case involved a fictional tale of computer misuse in the workplace complete with actors playing the part of those involved and focussed on the procedures required to ensure a fair outcome.

Lawyers from the firm held sessions in classes prior to the event. This was to familiarise learners with the documents and witness statements as well as coaching them on advocacy skills. Kay Frost, also a learner from the course and Director of local business The Playhouse Company, commented, “It’s obviously a great opportunity to look at best practice but also we can look at the mistakes people make and how these can be addressed or avoided in real-industry situations.”

The audience at the event also included members of the local CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development). Chair of the Hereford and Worcester branch, Nick Blake, said, “The CIPD, Kidwells and HCT have created an event which is fun, constructive and useful.”
