Kyle McCarthy Selected for Welsh Under-19 Squad

Kyle McCarthySport tutors had some exciting news last week when Hereford United Football Club was notified that HCT BTEC Sport - Performance and Excellence level 3 student, Kyle McCarthy, has been selected for the Welsh Under-19 Squad’s Training Camp in Spain. This is particularly satisfying as Kyle has fought back from a serious injury sustained eighteen months ago.

Kyle joined the course from Cardiff City Football Club in September 2009 and quickly established himself in the left back position and turned out for Hereford United’s reserve team. Then disaster struck at Cheltenham in late October and he suffered a double fracture of his right leg. A week later we were informed of his call up to the Welsh Under-17 Squad which further added to Kyle's disappointment at being unable to perform.

However, he fought his way back to fitness with the help of the team doctor and the then Hereford United Club’ Physiotherapist Jamie Pitman. He then returned to playing in July 2010. This season he has produced some fine performances and has been rewarded for his hard work and perseverance with his selection. HCT tutor Colin Williams commented, "We are really proud of how Kyle has overcome such adversity and turned his football career around. He is a great example of how hard work and determination can achieve amazing results.”
