HCT Celebrates 60th Anniversary & Official Campus Opening

The Hereford campus in the early 1950's and the campus as it is today

On Friday 12th March Herefordshire College of Technology will be having a joint celebration to mark the official opening of the Hereford campus as well as 60 years of providing the very best education to the community and surrounding areas.

The £32 million project has transformed the campus. First class facilities include an impressive Learning Resources Centre, a Business Centre offering a range of facilities to local businesses, a Technology Centre providing modern engineering and construction workshops and a Community Studies Centre comprising a modern teaching building that houses new training kitchens, the Cider Orchard training restaurant, hair, beauty and complementary therapy salons as well as fully equipped teaching rooms.

The College was first established in 1949, named Hereford College of Further Education. It offered 11 part-time courses, 3 block-release and employed just 6 members of staff. In 1958 the first buildings were opened on Aylestone Hill.

60 years later, HCT employs just under 600 staff and welcomes over 7,000 students each year.  The College offers over 90 full-time courses across two campuses, including a specialist land-based campus, as well as a vast range of part-time, HE, recreational and specialist courses for businesses.

Paul Keetch MP will officially open the campus cutting a ribbon and unveiling a commemorative plaque. The launch of 200 balloons will follow, two of which will contain a winning ticket entitling the finder to a fabulous mobile phone - the ticket must be returned to the Marketing Office by no later than the 31st of March to collect this fantastic prize. Keep your eyes peeled!

Mr Ian Peake, Principal, said “This will be a great day for HCT. We are looking forward to celebrating 60 years of service to our community and the complete renewal of our City campus”.
