Bedding, curtains and lampshade - by Julie AlvitiJulie was nominated by her external verifier, Margaret Walker, for a stunning display of craftsmanship. Her beautiful pieces of work include a re-covered chair, bedding, curtains and an ornate lampshade.

As a result of Julie’s success, the College has also been awarded a City & Guilds certificate in recognition of its high standards of teaching and training.

Julie comes from a farming background and runs an agricultural machinery business together with her husband. They also manage a cereal farm at Ashford Carbonel, near Ludlow.

With over 30 years accounting experience, Julie manages the accounts for the farm and the business on a daily basis. She wanted to do something else and escape from the demands of her hectic working life. Naturally creative, she decided to take a creative crafts course at the College with tutor, Marina Matthews. She hopes to continue working part-time and specialise in creating loose covers.

Following in her mums footsteps, daughter, Emma Alviti also studied fashion at the College’s Hereford Campus and is continuing her studies with a degree in textiles at Manchester University.
