Matthew Boultwood, a full time student on the Foundation Blacksmithing course was awarded a City and Guilds Gold Medal for Excellence at the West Midlands Achievement awards. The occasion took place at The Walsall Football Club on March 12th 2010. The medals were awarded by ITV Central News presenter Sameena Ali Khan alongside some choice cuisine and wine.
Following this Matthew and his tutor David Field had the privilege of attending the City and Guilds Lion Awards at the Royal Lancaster Hotel London on April 12th 2010. There were some 600 students and guests in attendance all dressed in their finery. Plenty of good food and wine set the stage and Jake Humphrey the BBC motor racing presenter was the guest speaker among other dignitaries. Matthew was presented a further award for excellence in engineering and a cheque for £250 from the Worshipful Company of Cutlers.
Matthew previously worked in industrial design and engineering but wanted a more hands on outlet for his personal design work.
Course tutor, David Field commented "Blacksmithing offers the opportunity to design and make from concept through to completion. Matthew has fully applied himself to the course and it is good to see his achievements acknowledged".
